Maia
Rather than cherish and protect their daughter, Maia’s adoptive parents sold her night after night to the men who came to their home. When Maia fought back, her family chained her to the back of the house and beat her into submission. Our partners rescued Maia from her nightmare and brought her to the Hope for Nicaragua safehouse. There she gained a new adoptive family—one that would love her, reassure her of her worth and value, and walk beside her on the path toward healing. With their help, Maia was able to reclaim her childhood and simply be an 11-year-old again—attending school, playing on the swing set, and giggling with her friends. In this safe place, she found a new family, a new childhood, and a new future.
