Paint with Joy: Expressive Botanicals!
Date: Saturday March 21
Time: 10:30-12:30
Cost: $30
Registration open until 5:00pm, Monday, March 16, 2026
Treat yourself or someone else (or both of you!) to a fun girls’ day out! No previous skills required. Come as you are! You will be led step by step to create a masterpiece you can hang in your home, workplace, or give as a gift. Adults and teens are welcome.
Our boutique manager, Joy, is a hobby-artist who loves to unwind and relax by painting or drawing. She enjoys various art mediums including watercolor, gouache, acrylic, paint markers, and colored pencils! Her “make your own mixed media greeting card” class at the WAR Chest Boutique was a hit, and she’s back to share her expertise with you in a fun new class.
As we look forward to spring, we’ll paint some botanical, floral artwork inspired by Scandinavian art prints and Joy’s favorite flower: tulips! Please wear something you won’t mind getting paint on! There’s no need to dress up for this occasion. It’s a cozy, laid back experience.
The cost of the class includes some light refreshments and all art supplies necessary! You will also receive a free 30-day trial of the art app, Cupixel, which pairs state-of-the-art technology with live and on-demand content enabling anyone to experience the joy and satisfaction of creating art, regardless of their artistic skill. Cupixel has kindly donated some of their proprietary device stands so we can use their tracing technology during this class. Their tech requires a smart-phone or device. If you do not have a device available, we can provide another way to trace the design on your canvas. Joy will encourage you to use their app if you can. (It’s a lot of fun!) She’s excited to share it with you, and we thank Cupixel for their kind donation! If you wish to continue creating art after the class, you’ll find loads of inspiration through their app. Beyond the 30-day trial, you’ll have the option to continue with a paid membership.
Shopping in the boutique will be available before and after the event. Participants will be offered 10% off one item at regular price the day of the class as a thank you for attending! The boutique opens at 10:00am and closes at 3:00pm. If you don’t feel your painting is finished at 12:30, you will be welcome to stay a while later to complete it.
The example images are just that: examples! You’ll be able to customize your painting with the colors and details of your choice! We can’t wait to see your final products!

Event Details
We are hosting our 2nd Annual Estate Sale for Freedom event! We have put out a call to our Women At Risk, International (WAR, Int’l) family (our wonderful supporters and friends!) to donate items they no longer want or need, and that they’d like to go toward a good cause—creating circles of protection around at-risk and rescued women around the world. If you wish to donate, please see below.
Every purchase from the Estate Sale makes a difference! Approximately $300 supports one woman in an international safehouse for one month. During that time, she may work towards finishing her education, gain job training, receive counseling and/or medical care, have her kids in childcare, and more. Though in many cases women work part-time due to these many facets of recovery and starting over, they receive full-time pay. This support enables them to have a fresh start while growing in dignity and empowerment. They can thrive upon leaving the program, rather than being sent out into the world as vulnerable as when they arrived.
Provided the weather cooperates, the Estate Sale will be held outside of our WAR Chest Boutique in our front lawn facing 44th St. If the weather does not cooperate, the estate sale will still take place, but inside. See the address below.

July 13 – 18, 2026
Monday through Friday, 10am – 5pm
Saturday, 10am – 3pm
We hope to see you there!
NOTICE – We are taking donations through July 1st.
Here’s how you can be part of it:
• Donate high-end items. We’re looking for quality pieces—no Tupperware, broken items, or clothing. Think wedding crystal, china sets, tea cups, décor, grandfather clocks, estate pieces—beautiful items your kids don’t want because they’re not from Pottery Barn. We’ll provide a tax-deductible receipt, and every dollar raised goes toward rescue.
• Vintage & Antique Furniture pieces may also be accepted. If you have something special but are not sure how to get it to us, call us at 616.855.0796.
• Estate jewelry (not costume jewelry) is welcome—we’ll provide a receipt for that as well.
• Toys in excellent or brand-new condition are gladly accepted.
• Help us price! If you love garage sales and know what things should go for, feel free to add a sticker or note. If you’re local and willing to help price items, we would truly love your help.
• Any remaining items will be boxed and donated to secondhand shops that support causes we believe in.
