Aailyah sits next to her father. He helps carve the wooden spoons, and then Aailyah carefully waxes the camel bone handles. After each spoon is waxed, they dip it in a dye which makes the black and white design on the bone. Aailyah is responsible for traveling to Nairobi where she sets up stalls in the different "Maasai markets" and sells the spoons. Each spoon is done carefully--she knows the importance of each spoon because each spoon sold provides income to feed her children. She is married, but her husband does not help provide for the family at all. WAR, Int'l sells these spoons to help Ailyah provide for her family, with the dignity of helping herself instead of living off of handouts.
