April 2026
25 years ago, April was designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) to promote awareness of the crime, educate communities on prevention, urge unity among advocates, and provide solidarity for survivors.
The theme, reflecting on the anniversary of the foundation of the movement while looking forward with hope, is “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward.”
The first Tuesday of the month–April 7 this year–is the SAAM Day of Action. This calls us to start the month with highly visible and coordinated actions. Wearing teal on this day shows support for survivors and is a sign of your commitment to ending sexual violence. Wear it as a conversation starter and share why this issue is important to you!
The last Wednesday of the month–April 29–is Denim Day, a campaign to visibly protest against misconceptions surrounding sexual violence by wearing jeans.
The month also includes a few weeks set apart to emphasize a certain aspect of SA and its consequences. Follow along with us to learn more and to find ways to take action!
