Gordana

Private: Kosovo Widows
Kosovo

Like many women in Kosovo, Gordana waited expectantly for her husband’s return from the war—but he never came. Even to this day his body has not been found. Yet Gordana had no time to mourn the loss; with bills to pay, a sick daughter to tend to, and children to feed, she was desperate. But then she heard that Kosovo Widows provided vocational training for women and tutoring for children. Now Gordana creates beautiful handwork at the community center. The money she earns provides her family with groceries, medicine, and school books—even a small bathroom for their two-room house. Now Gordana’s children are healthier and stronger, and she holds her head high, rebuilding life after the war and working with dignity.
