Initially, WAR, Int’l, hoped to raise enough money to dig five wells in Bengal, but God has provided far above her hopes. WAR, Int’l now has funding for 60 wells in Bengal and is collecting micro-loans for the widows for whom these wells are being built. Twenty wells were immediately dug; the rest will be dug slowly through the rainy season. These wells aren’t only providing clean water in a country where the water is riddled with pollution, disease, parasites, and toxins, but they are opening doors for the gospel. Before each well is dug, Christians gather around the site to pray. This way, the mostly illiterate villagers know who is responsible for their water—the Living Water, Christ Jesus—through a powerful object lesson. The wells are also a testimony to the workers who drill the wells. At each location, the Hindu and Muslim drillers are going to hear prayers from the Christians who are providing for their elderly. And the 60 wells, which have special locks cemented into the ground, will provide them with more work than they normally have in years. WAR, Int’l is also collecting $330 micro-loans for 75 widows plus villagers in Bangalesh, where WAR, Int’l recently built a Sewing Academy. With $330, a Bengali can buy a cow, a goat, and a start-up kit to make rice cakes. These Bengalis will not only be able to drink clean water but will also be able to eat. And just as valuable, they’ll receive dignity as they live self-sufficiently. The widows and villagers will receive the micro-loans from the same Bible study group overseeing the well project. |
